Consonance of past and present

On May 17, 2019, the 11th International Theatre Festival “Classics today” started in the town of Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region (more information about festival you find at the European Festival Finder: https://www.festivalfinder.eu/festivals/international-theatre-festival-classics-today).

The Festival, which would last up to May 24, 2019, was organized by the City Council of Kamianske, the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of Dnipropetrovsk Region State Administration, National Union of Theatre Artists of Ukraine, and Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after Lesia Ukrainka of the town of Kamianske.  

“Classics today” is a jewel of the theatre movement in Ukraine”, Andriy Bilousov, mayor of Kamianske said.  “I am sure that festival will positively impact on the culture life of town as well as on international image of our country, while the presence in the festival program of theatres from USA, Turkey, Poland, Lithuania, Georgia and Azerbaijan will give good example of cultural diplomacy”.

As the art director of “Classics today”, merited arts worker, Sergiy Chulkov pointed out, revealing one of conceptual ideas of the festival, “Time tested value of moral ideals from different epochs when great playwrights worked creatively. A challenge of the modern theatre is to find the methods for discovering the consonance of past and present which could make passions of classic literature heroes close to modern spectators encouraging them not to contemplate but to emphasize with life  recreated in the space of stage”.

Sicheslav Festival Assocation “ArtEthnoFest” took part in “Classics today” opening in Kamianske greeting festival participants on behalf of the European Festival Association.
