The project Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE) is presented by the director of the Development Centre “Democracy through Culture”, chief of the EFFE Hub in Ukraine, Oleksandr Butsenko.
The European Festival Association (EFA) is the umbrella organisation for festivals across Europe representing about 100 most eminent festivals in 40 countries.
EFFE was initiated by the European Festivals Association in 2014, co-financed by the European Union, to raise international recognition for festivals’ excellence in their daily work all across Europe granting them EFFE Label as a quality label for festival events. Also, it would present the most interesting and the most creative events connecting festivals committed to the equal will to encourage their visitors for considering about the world around.
Experts across Europe assess applications to determine if festivals meet the three main criteria – artistic commitment and innovative approaches, involvement in their local communities and a European and global outlook. The EFFE Label is granted for 2 years.
Above 800 claims were submitted to receive EFFE 2017-2018 label. Among selected festivals there were three Ukrainian, GogolFEST (Kyiv), Faine Misto (Ternopil) and Yavoriv toy (Yavoriv, Lviv region), which received EFFE Certificates. One of Ukrainian festivals, GogolFEST, was nominated also for EFFE Award. The EFFE Label and Award winners benefit from the recognition for their work and values, increased visibility (website and EFFE Guide), new networking opportunities both face-to-face and online and further involvement in the artistic community.
The Ukrainian EFFE Hub on the basis of the Development Centre “Democracy through Culture” is one of 28 festival hubs in European countries acting as contact points within the frames of the EFFE projects. The Ukrainian Hub will compose the national jury, promote the initiative, organize information campaign and start the new label edition for 2019-2020. The call will be opened by October 2018.
