On November 15, 2019, the exhibition “Transgression”, representing graphic works by well-known modern Spanish artist, Antoni Miró, was opened in the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine. The exhibition organized by the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and the Development Centre “Democracy through Culture” represented two visual series of the artist, “Wind of the people” and “Flight of the cat”.

“Wind of the people” is dedicated to A. Miró’s close friend, the famous Spanish dancer, Antonio Gades (1936-2004) representing his art and life. 24 pieces of the series are titled with 24 lines of the eponymous poetry by other famous Catalan, Miguel Hernández (1910-1942), pushing in this way boundaries of imaginative perception of visual works.

27 graphic pieces of the series “Flight of the cat” correspond to 27 chapters of the same name novel by Cuban writer, publisher and public person, Abel Prieto, about the generation of 1960-s. The narrative of the novel was interpreted by Catalan well-known dancer, Sol Picó, through art of dance, while A. Miró has united visually the writing and the dance. The Catalan translation of the novel was published in 2012 with illustrations by A. Miró.

On the exhibition opening, the chief scientific secretary of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Oleksiy Skrypnyk, stated that “synergy of different arts gives us possibility to feel the whole strength and deepness of artistic language in conceiving the world, discovering historical events and important facts of the modern life”.

Exposed works uniting different genres: literature, choreography, visual art – inspired a group of students of Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television named after I. Karpenko-Kary led by Natalia Dniprenko to create the plastic performance “Extra words”. Young actors, inspired by A.
