Festivals’ Podium

On 18 November 2019, Ukrainian festivals received awarding certificates with EFFE Label 2019-2020, in the National Press Club of Ukraine. 26 festivals from Ukraine were selected by the EFFE/EFA International Jury. The ceremony was organized by the EFFE/EFA Hub in Ukraine – Development Centre “Democracy through Culture” and the Foundation “Souspilnist” as a Ukrainian Media Hub.

On ceremony opening, the head of the EFFE/EFA Hub in Ukraine, director of the Development Centre “Democracy through Culture”, Oleksandr Butsenko noted that Ukraine this year has made with festivals a real breakthrough in the festival movement of Europe demonstrating high quality, energy, diversity, openness and maturity.

Receiving the certificate each honoured Ukrainian festival shared of its experience and future plans. The director of the multidisciplinary GogolFEST, Maxim Demsky, told about the long creative way of the festival, its irrepressible aspiration to move forward, inspiring with experience and energy local communities and cultural centers. His sincere confession that the festival

remains high on his life resonates with full force within all participants of the ceremony, since a festival is an integral part of their life. It’s worth to remind that GogolFEST has become twice EFFE Laureate, and in 2019 received EFFE Award.

Summarizing, the head of the Foundation “Souspilnist”, Taras Petriv said that he was impressed by sparkles in eyes, creative plans, inspiration, pride in festivals, eagerness to create and develop.  

During the ceremony, the representative of the city of Dnipro demonstrated the municipal programme “Culture capital” that united several festivals like “Jazz at Dnipro”, «Book Spaсe», «DniproPuppetFest», «Clouds», Bloggers’ Fest, as a successful experience of interaction between the city and festivals.  

The zest of the ceremony was the enchanting mini theatre performance by the young Kyiv festival “Extra words”.

The ceremony demonstrated that due to the EFFE Project a festival platform for exchanging ideas and experience has been established in Ukraine, including two EFA members, GogolFEST and Sicheslav Festival Association “ArtEthnoFest”.
